In a decision made at the 28th session, held in Budapest on 9/10 April 2008, the IPCC Panel approved the development of this Special Report under the responsibility of Working Group III (Mitigation of Climate Change). The decision document can be accessed via the IPCC website.
The IPCC has been established by WMO and UNEP to assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant for the understanding of climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. To support a decision on the Special Report by the IPCC Plenary, a scoping meeting was organised under the auspices of the IPCC, which was held in Luebeck, Germany from 20 to 25 January 2008. The proceedings of this workshop as well as a detailed structure of the Special Report, as proposed to the 28th IPCC Plenary meeting, are available on the IPCC website. The delivery of the Special Report is due in the second half of 2010.
In order to facilitate the process of report writing and the review process, four lead author meetings will be organised before the delivery of the report. The dates of the 1st lead author meeting, which will be kindly hosted by the Brazilian government, are fixed as 26 to 30 January 2009 in São José dos Campos, Sao Paulo State, Brazil.
