Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) - Nominations

Nominating Experts for the AR5

Governments and participating Observer Organizations are requested to nominate experts to serve as Coordinating Lead Author (CLA), Lead Authors (LA), and Review Editors (RE) of the various chapters of the report. Governments and organizations are free to identify experts via any preferred national or institutional mechanism, but are requested to follow IPCC guidelines for submitting complete nominations packages. Each government has a designated Focal Point who will communicate nominees to the IPCC. Nominated individuals should agree in advance to fulfill the role for which they are nominated, should they be selected to do so by IPCC. The IPCC will review these nominations and make final decisions based upon the merit of the nominees. Given the number of individuals that are typically nominated in this process, there is no guarantee that a nominee will be selected for participation.

Nomination Instructions

  1. The IPCC website provides additional background information and a portal to the individual working group AR5 nominations systems (restricted access). It is important to note that the time commitment required to carry out different roles in the IPCC process varies greatly. Serving as a Coordinating Lead Author and Review Editor would normally require the greatest level of effort. The duties of each role are described in greater detail in IPCC procedures.

  2. Identify your government Focal Point, and send them your nomination(s). You may self-nominate. Do not send your nomination(s) directly to the IPCC. Please be sure to provide all requested information, as incomplete forms will not be considered. Contact information for government Focal Points can be provided upon request by sending mail to contact@ipcc-wg3.de.
